Arizona's Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching
In November 2014, the Arizona State Board of Education adopted a new statewide achievement test, AzMERIT, for Arizona students. In order to help communicate the purpose of the new test and several important aspects of the upcoming implementation process, the Arizona Department of Education has created a series of helpful resources to guide all stakeholders.

The ACT is a one of the college entrance exams required many colleges & universities (the other being the SAT, colleges & universities will accept either). For more information about the ACT, visit their website at www.act.org.

All students take the ACT at UHS in the spring of their junior year for FREE.

Students do not need to register for the ACT at UHS but will be required to attend a pre-ACT meeting on a given date. The ACT given at UHS does not include the writing portion. If you are planning to apply to a school that requires the writing portion, you will have to register to take it again at a later date.

Students will receive their scores in the mail at the address they provided on their answer sheet. Students must have an account to be able to send their scores to colleges or sign up to take the ACT again! Create your account as soon as you receive your score sheet because you need your score sheet to do so (and then you have access to your scores and your account if you lose your score sheet)!

Follow these steps to create your account:
1. Go to ACT Student Website
2. In the upper right hand corner click on “Sign In”
3. Click on “Create Account”
4. For “Have you registered for the ACT before” click “Yes"
5. For “Have you taken the ACT before” click “Yes”
6. Fill in personal info, when prompted provide your ACT ID from the score sheet you received in the mail

If you decide to take the ACT again, or need to take it with writing, you can sign up on the ACT's website for one of the national test dates & locations here.

The PSAT, or the Preliminary SAT, is a test co-sponsored by the College Board (the company that writes the SAT) & the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Not only do scores from the PSAT help students to prepare for the SAT, but it is a National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT). When students take the test during their junior year, it determines their eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Program, the National Hispanic Recognition Program, as well as many other significant scholarships. To learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT, visit their website.

Hispanic Scholars

At UHS all 9th, 10th, & 11th grade students take the PSAT/NMSQT
The best way to do well on the PSAT/NMSQT is to practice! By taking it multiple times over their high school career, UHS students become familiar with the types of questions on the PSAT as well as the timing structure. Students also receive score reports that they can use to understand the areas that they need to improve upon before they take the qualifying test their junior year. Students tend to score higher when they take the test multiple times!

What does the PSAT/NMSQT cost?
For 10th & 11th grade students the test is FREE.
9th grade students MUST pay $17 in the UHS Finance Office
Fee Waiver forms available in the Counseling, Career & College Center.

Instructions for Accessing PSAT Scores
Students can access their PSAT scores through their College Board account or create one if you don't have one (this account will be used to access all PSAT, AP, and SAT test scores).
