Admissions Process
Students must meet test and grade point average criteria to attend UHS. Students cannot enroll in UHS as a neighborhood school or through Open Enrollment. The TUSD Assessment and Evaluation Department (A&E), not UHS, handles the admission process. Current TUSD students do not have submit an application. Students not currently attending a TUSD school must submit an application before testing. UHS does not accept mid-year transfers, incoming Seniors or international students applying as exchange students.
Criteria for admission to grades 9 and 10:
Score 7, 8 or 9 on the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) (23-29 points). Obtain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 in core subjects (English, math, science, and social studies, 22-36 points). Combined points from test and GPA must total at least 50 for admissions offer.
Criteria for admission to grade 11:
The transcript must show successful completion of a rigorous program of studies. Students must show college readiness with a PSAT/SAT score of 1200 (ACT score of 25) or equivalent indicator of college readiness.
Testing
The CogAT test is a timed multiple-choice test with verbal, quantitative, and non-verbal batteries. It is an assessment of learned reasoning skills, not of achievement or intelligence. Students must test during one of the scheduled testing days and may not re-test for a given admission year.
Grades
Parents of non-TUSD students are required to submit grades to the Assessment & Evaluation Department or by email to UHS Admissions Photographs of grades are not accepted.
Communicating decisions
The Assessment and Evaluation Department will mail results/qualification status letters. All students with a combined (CogAT+GPA) score of 50 points or more will be offered admission to University High School.
